Attendanceparticipation pointsThese Art courses are entirely production based! Artwork cannot be completed when the student isn't even here. Participation points are given every class day. Each day is worth ONE point and can be taken away depending on level of work ethic and/or attendance. All of these are added to your final grade at the end of the Trimester. These points will add up quickly!! They could mean the difference between a good and bad grade.
RESPECT IN THE ART ROOMSAll students are expected to have read and understand the High School behavior policy contained within their student planners and online. These rules are expected to be followed by students at all times. In this classroom there are three broad common sense expectations that should be observed:
Respect others:
Respect the room:
Respect yourself:
INAPPROPRIATE REFERENCESHere in the Art rooms the use of Objectionable emblems, badges, symbols, signs, words, objects, or pictures on student artwork communicating a message that is racist, sexist, or otherwise derogatory to a protected minority group, evidences gang membership or affiliation, or approves, advances, or provokes any form of religious, racial or sexual harassment and/or violence against other individuals is prohibited. There will be instances of use, but prior communication with the instructor is required with approval.

end of the trimester policyWHAT IS CONSIDERED "ALL-IN?"With so many parts to a classroom environment there are the essential and non-essential parts to complete the course requirements.
PROJECTS: These assignments showcase the skills and techniques learned up to that point. ALL projects are required to complete by the end of the trimester! Be aware that towards the end of the Trimester, in the last two weeks, they will gradually lose credit… PRACTICE WORK: These smaller pieces/practice work/worksheets aren’t absolutely necessary to pass the class, but will lose credit at the end of the trimester to the point of a zero. Highly recommended to complete these to help better yourself and art skills in the class. These become a good indication of a student's work ethic. CHOPS/QUICKFIRES: These daily assignments in Computer Graphics and Digital Photography are incredibly important to learning and develop your skills. Due at the end of the period when assigned! If the student is present, but does not turn it in, half the points are automatically taken away (unless computer issues, or another problem occurred); THEN it is graded accordingly when submitted to the classroom. LATE/MISSING ASSIGNMENTS AT THE END OF THE TRIDespite projects allowed to be turned by the end of the Trimester, there are some penalties for work coming in quite late. In the second-to-the-last week of the Trimester, all assignments turned in late will lose 25% of their grade immediately. In the last week of the Trimester: 50% of the grade will be taken. There are exceptions due to complexity of projects, or medical/family reasons. But COMMUNICATION IS KEY! The instructor will tell the students which projects will fall under this late category and students should communicate concerns about projects that may be considered late. There should be no expectations without communication!
social media/photo disclaimerteachersWith the rise of technology and all the social media aspects, it is expected that students NOT video tape the instructors unless permission is granted. Photos of the teachers should not be uploaded to any social media platforms for any reason without expression permission and conversation. We ask that students be polite and respectful of our privacy.
StudentsArt is a series of visual courses meant to be shared outside of the classroom. The instructors here at DCHS reserve the right to take images of student artwork to promote the class, decorate the school hallways, submit to contests, or be used as examples. Students that do not wish to have their work displayed in any way, must communicate this to the instructors ahead of time. Actual student photos with their face will not be posted on social media without that person's explicit permission!
